Deadline approaching for low income homeowners to apply for grants for repairs


The May 12, 2017 is is the deadline for low income home owners to apply for grants for home repairs.

The City of Kawartha Lakes participates in the Ontario Renovates Component of the Investment in Affordable Housing for Ontario which was developed to assist low-to moderate-income homeowners improve their living conditions and/or make accessibility modifications.

Kawartha-Haliburton Renovates (KHR) provides a forgivable loan to a maximum of $10,000 for repairs such as roofs, plumbing, heating, foundations, wells, septic systems, etc. to eligible home owners.  A grant to a maximum of $5,000 is also available for modifications to reduce physical barriers such as ramps, handrails, chair and bath lifts, countertop height adjustments, etc.

Applicants must own their own home and the market value of their home must be at or below $350,430.  The household income of the applicant cannot exceed certain limits.

Eligible applications will be considered for funding on a priority basis considering both income and the type of repair/modification.
